First Interior Painting

We just finished up the second painting assignment today, and I actually enjoyed doing it! We were told to use a layout done earlier in a Layout class and paint it. I expanded on a lineart based on the theme "Wizard's Lair". I had previously imagined the wizard as conjuring a green spell, making everything in the room green, but once I got to painting I found a more candlelit colour scheme was more appealing. The wizard didn't even make it into the final painting due to a lack of time, so I guess it's a moot point.

This time I decided to try using gouache in a more watercolour-y way instead of the usual thicker way I do it. It turned out to be WAY easier than how I usually do it. You can work with the paint more without it getting too messy and blobby, you can apply a light coating to lighten or darken...it's great. It's just great. I've never really tried watercolours, but was always turned off by how bland the colours are, so gouache satisfys all my painting needs.

Well, here are the tonals, colour keys and final painting for my interior!

Digital Dump

Okay, so I haven't posted anything in quite some time. However, I HAVE been drawing, experimenting with colouring digitally, assignments, etc. So I think it's time to throw in some of the digital painting practice I've been doing.
All right, so here we have some Pokemon fanart (one from a few months ago, one done more recently), a caricature of my Mom, a flamenco dancer, and a fan OC for Lawlzy's Backwards Cat. Enjoy!

I'll probably get around to posting some of my Sheridan assignments when the homework slows down a little. Turns out scanning takes a lot longer than you plan it to. So, until I have time to scan art, see you!

Painting Assignment One: Paint Something.

We have pretty much free reign for the first painting assignment this year. We're only limited to it being an outside environment. I decided arbitrarily on a desert. Deserts are cool, so hey, why not. Some google searches for what deserts actually look like and this is what I came up with:

The next stage of the assignment was to take this lineart and explore lighting through three different tonal studies.

That brings us to the present, taking one of the tonals and exploring three different colour schemes. I already had colours in my head that I thought of after seeing a picture. The first two I approached slowly and thought about, but the third one is just me going crazy. It had taken me hours to do the first two rough colours ideas and I couldn't think of anything good to do for the last one, so I just started painting. It was originally green, but the desert looked more like a forest that way. Anyway, enjoy:

The final painting is due in a week, so expect to see it in the near future!

Nursery Rhyme Storyboards

We have an assignment in our Storyboard class to take two nursery rhymes and interpret them into storyboard beat panels. We needed to do a character line-up for each poem as well as a minimum number of beat panels. here's what I ended up with. This first one is based off of a poem called "The Leader" by Roger McGough. I used the story of Icarus to portray it (templates by Lawlzy).

This next one is based on the poem "My Father" by Kaye Umansky. I couldn't think of any fun situation for it, so I just did it pretty much literally. The only semi-original idea I went with was to make the main character's friends other Haloween-type creatures as well.

First Art Post!

By popular demand, the first piece of my work I post is Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns fanart. Done in layout class while being a bad student and not paying attention.

Also, the blog is pretty much finished and no longer looks like a default template with nothing interesting happening. More art to come!

First post!

So, here's a blog by good old Aunt Jamila. I still need to make it look nice. That's right, I'm talking to YOU, MAXWELL.
